Naming rights
Helge Ingstad finally got his mountain. Ingstad who lived in Alaska in the 1950s collecting folklore and history from the Nunamuits, was honored by them with his own mountain. Ingstad Mountain officially came into being just this year because the petition would not be granted for five years after Ingstad's death. And he lived to the ripe old age of 101, finally passing away in 2001. Ingstad's other claim to fame is proving the Vikings came to North America centuries before Christopher Columbus. Despite their reputation for raping and pillaging, the Vikings did not see the land that was to become the United States and Canada as worthwhile and left, forfeiting glory and naming rights to the Spaniards, French and English.
