The devil's in the details

Since the very first broadsheet ever slipped off the press, media (in all forms) has been, not the beacon of truth they purport themselves to be, but instead has sometimes subtly, sometimes glaringly, formed our view of the world. Most news stories include the truth however concealed. It is in the details that our thoughts are shaded, directed. For example:
Man, 43, dies of gunshot wound.
Young father gunned down in the streets.
Drug lord taken down in drive-by.
All three are potentially the same story, but look at the difference in the direction of your opinions. The first is pure fact. No speculation, no details. The second is sympathetic to the victim. The third is almost accusatory.
Next time you read ANY news story, or watch an anchor read to you. Keep that in mind.
