Help where it's needed

By most accounts we generous Americans have raised over $1 billion for victims of hurricane Katrina. The hurricane at last count (Oct. 7) killed 1242 and left somewhere in the neighborhood of 1 million homeless.
By contrast, the unbelievably devastating earthquake in Pakistan and India has killed more than 40000. That's forty thousand. According to CNN,
"[T]he death toll from the massive South Asia earthquake soared above 42,000, officials said. Nearly 3 million people were living in tents or in the open air amid freezing temperatures, having been left homeless by the weekend 7.6 magnitude quake in the Himalayan regions of India and Pakistan."

Perhaps we generous Americans can contribute to relief efforts abroad as well as at home.
