Why we should not take nutrition tips from amphibians: 'A species of blind, cave-dwelling salamander in the US mid-west has switched from a normal carnivorous diet to eating nutritious bat guano.'
If you're wondering how they discovered this marvel, the answer is puke. "It's not uncommon for salamanders to regurgitate on capture." YUM. Apparently the puke was not such a surprise as the fact that it was full of black droppings. YUM YUM. The team also saw salamanders munching down on the six-foot-deep guano bank inside the cave.
According to the head reasearchers, "Because bats don't fully digest their food, their guano was pretty nutritious, and actually had more calories than the tiny shrimp." "If you could somehow sterilize bat guano, it would probably make a good human food source." YUM YUM YUM.
