It seems even past civilizations were obsessed with past civilizations. At Roman Emperor Hadrian's villa, archaeologists have unearthed what appears to be a headless sphinx.
So in the year 120 C.E. someone in Rome was absorbed in the culture of ancient Egypt. Does that make those studying Hadrian and his villa Egyptologists with one degree of separation?
And for the human-animal hybrid enthusiasts, Hadrian had this.
