This holiday, I read this news story about a common ancestor to all people on earth today.
It was a bit disconcerting to think that my Norwegian ancestors aren't. Well, they're my ancestors but they aren't really Norwegian in the grand scheme of things. On the other hand, how cool is it to be able to whittle down all of humanity back through the ages to the one -prolific- man (let's be honest, it had to be a man, a woman would never live through the ordeal) who fathered everyone. The proverbial Abraham I suppose. So, in the universal sense, we're all related.
For some reason, no matter how stupid my fellow citizens are, the thought that we're related beyond sharing the same atmosphere is comforting to me.
