Fine

As someone who makes weekly trips to the library, you'd think that overdue books are something that would never occur for me. You'd be wrong. I try, diligently ticking off my list every week, to be sure I have everything accounted for, but it doesn't always happen. However, I have managed to keep my fine riding consistently at just under $3, unlike this poor guy.
I do appreciate the fact that he notes upon returning the book that was due January 2, 1960, after 47 years, "Fifty-seven years would be embarrassing."

We learn from this that it's never too late to return a library book AND, more importantly, anything overdue for more than 50 years is embarassing. So that biography of Patrick Henry that you never got around to reading and has been languishing in your linen closet for the past 2 years? -it's okay to return it now without embarassment.
