Non-fiction

I'm a big fan of history. Not to the extent as mentioned in yesterday's post of re-enacting it, but I do read a lot.
I like the narratives that read like fiction. This is dangerous ground with many scholars who think that in order for history to be accurate, it must also be dull.
My two favorite authors have been accused of dressing things up from the past to make them more entertaining for us. That said, these guys are still writing non-fiction and they both include extensive notes in their books. I'm pretty sure they're not making this stuff up.
Anyway, if you're looking for a taste of history that's not as dry as the bones of the people they're writing about, check out anything by Erik Larson and David McCullough. Also Shelby Foote's Civil War: A Narrative is a must read.
