I'm blushing

Have you ever noticed how frequently fictional female characters blush? Especially when her male counterpart shows an "interest." Why? And why do we associate it with innocence?

Despite how common blushing is, it has received very little scientific attention... and the scant findings so far suggest that blushing is a response to undesired social attention. Self-consciousness is the only feeling universally associated with blushing.
