"Republican presidential front-runner John McCain on Monday retracted his earlier statement he would lose the November election if he did not convince Americans they were winning the war in Iraq."
What he meant to say was he would lose the November election because he's an ancient, war-mongering politician who can't remember what he had with his morning prune juice, let alone sponsoring campaign-finance reform or vehemently denouncing torture or advocating lenient immigration reforms, and who's managed to piss off most of the hard-right big money in the GOP while not enchanting any of the independents with his so-called "straight talk." That's what he meant to say.
