Friday Book Blogging

The book this week is about a book. People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks traces the history of a rare illuminated haggadah. The story of the book is related through Hanna Heath's conservation efforts and her research. Beginning with Sarajevo, backward through time to the origins of the illuminations, the miracle of the book's survival mirrors the struggle of the main character with her personal history. Brooks was much more impressive with her story of March, and this novel tends to a feeling of a condensed and feminized Michner, but even so, it's well-told and creative.
