I read six books this week. I don't know if you can imagine my chagrin at the discovery that the one I liked best has been made into a schlocky movie (available on DVD!) already. I usually provide a link to the author/book. So in choosing Claire Cook's Must Love Dogs, I did a search on it and got a gaggle of googles about a movie. Huh.
I've not seen this movie, needless to say, since I only just discovered that it exists moments ago. I can tell you that the book is charming. The characters are quirky and warm, but still true. What I liked most about it, though, is its reality. The storyline isn't forced. It isn't contrived. It's as if poor Sarah's life could be yours (or your sister's). There are mistakes, humiliations, and a genuineness that made the story, which is relatively tame and understated, resonate.
