In honor of Leif Erikson Day, today we'll dispel the myth of the Viking Helmet. Hagar the Horrible notwithstanding, "No self-respecting Viking warrior ever wore a horned helmet in battle... ."
While such things as horned helmets did exist, they certainly weren't worn by "every-day Olaf Six-Pack" vikings. Don't let that ruin your Halloween costume though. The horns were popularized by Richard Wagner's opera among other misled and misleading sources.
