Only five books this week, but hands down the best of them was Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows'
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. This epistolary novel gives a charming slice of life on the Channel island of Guernsey during and immediately after WWII. The letters attest to the triumph of the human spirit despite the basest cruelties. Just reading it brought a smile to my lips.

Can you really make a pie out of potato peels?
Unfortunately, a recipe was not included.
