My mother, if she actually had an Internet connection and read this blog, would be thrilled. She has been begging me to read this book for the past five years. She gave me her copy of it three years ago. It had been sitting in a pile of "owned" books that is usually overlooked due to the fact that none of them has a due date at the local library like all the other books I read. Well, with both Christmas and New Year's falling on a Thursday
I did like it. I can't say that I'd ever gush over it the way Mom did, but Pilcher tells a complex story with characters that resonate. There were a bit too many clichés and contradictions for me to heartily recommend it, but I don't regret the 580 pages, so it can't have been horrible.
