Friday Book Blogging

I am sorry to admit that this week I've only read three books. Picking a favorite of the three seems kind of anticlimactic, but I'm certainly not starting the New Year by falling down on the self-appointed job. So, the book of the week is Rosamunde Pilcher's The Shell Seekers.
My mother, if she actually had an Internet connection and read this blog, would be thrilled. She has been begging me to read this book for the past five years. She gave me her copy of it three years ago. It had been sitting in a pile of "owned" books that is usually overlooked due to the fact that none of them has a due date at the local library like all the other books I read. Well, with both Christmas and New Year's falling on a Thursday this last year, Library day was missed two weeks in a row. This seriously cut into the surplus reading material to the point where I finally picked up the dang book.
I did like it. I can't say that I'd ever gush over it the way Mom did, but Pilcher tells a complex story with characters that resonate. There were a bit too many clichés and contradictions for me to heartily recommend it, but I don't regret the 580 pages, so it can't have been horrible.
