Perspective

There was a high school band concert last night. I, as the parent of a band member, was obligated to attend. (If you are familiar with high school band concerts, you understand the use of the word "obligated.") I also attend all choir concerts (due to the same obligation). At every concert I have attended in the past three years --a minimum of four per year, usually six-- the same elderly couple sits in the same seats. I asked them which was their grandchild and the woman turned to me with a pitying smile and said, "Oh, we don't have any grandchildren here; we just like the shows. And they're free for seniors"
