I don't know if it's because I love old houses, or food, or Italy, but my pick of the week's six books is Frances Mayes' Under the Tuscan Sun.
I know it's old and already a movie, but the book makes you smile on practically every page. From the simple food and falling down farmhouse to the friendly natives and thriving olive grove, the ability to see joy in everyday faces and events charms the reader.
If this book doesn't make you want to go to Italy, nothing will.
