An anniversary of sorts to mention: 1,216 years ago yesterday, Vikings gained their infamous reputation for rape and pillage.
Vikings also "left traces for eternity. Over 900 of the most common English words come from the Vikings (sky, skin, scrape, skirt, husband [husbonde] and window [vindue] are some examples)."
They also travelled, traded with and (at times) conquered cities throughout Europe and parts of the Near East. The remarkable part is that they chose to return home and spend winter with the family.
