I finished seven books this week. My favorite was The Abyssinian by Jean-Christophe Rufin.
In this epic tale, we follow humble apothocary Jean-Baptiste Poncet on adventures from Ottoman Cairo to unknown Abyssinia to the court of Versailles at the turn of the 18th century. Naturally, he is on a quest for his true love, but he also discovers freedom and honor. The bones of the novel remain true to history while still weaving a fantastical spell of intrigues and escapes.
