Friday Book Blogging

It was a slow-read week this week with only four books to show. This was due primarily to the pick of the week which, although I enjoyed it, was not the snappy fluff reading I'm used to banging away.
Daniel Okrent's Last Call: The Rise and Fall of Prohibition looks at a nation of boozers and the perfect storm that was Prohibition. The writing is intelligent and informative, if a bit verbose. (I almost managed to keep a straight face when I typed that!)
Astonishing facts and figures pepper the entire book from the intertwined histories of temperance and sufferage through the invention of the cigarette boat. It was extra-fun to read while sipping a gin and tonic.
