Rock solid idiom

211 years ago, French soldiers under Napoleon found a chunk of rock we now call the Rosetta Stone. Within 25 years, scholars were able to translate Egyptian hieroglyphs that had been unreadable for 1300 years.
Since that time, the term Rosetta Stone has come to represent the essential clue in any field of knowledge. Which makes the Rosetta Stone the Rosetta Stone of Egyptian hieroglyphs.
