Friday Book Blogging

This week's recommendation is The Breaking of Eggs by Jim Powell. This is the quirky story of odd-duck Feliks Zhukovski who, at age 61, has based his entire life on what he discovers to be profound misconceptions.
This is the year Feliks questions everything he ever believed and reevaluates everything he's ever done. What might have been shattering for an isolated, introverted older man, instead leads to a charming second chance at life.
All the revelations are set against the backdrop of 1991 Europe and the fall of the Wall, and subsequently the opening of Eastern Europe. Shared memories from diametrically opposed viewpoints play out the perceptions and realities of life in Europe going back to 1939.
Powell manages to tell a historical and personal drama through Feliks and reminds us that not everything in fiction is wrapped neatly with a bow.
