Things I did not know about the creature living under the playhouse in the backyard.

1. It is the only marsupial in North America.


2. It has a robust immune system and shows partial or total immunity to the venom of rattlesnakes, cottonmouths, and other pit vipers.


3. It will eat nearly anything, and especially likes roadkill.


4. Their tails are not strong enough to support the weight of a full grown animal.


5. Playing dead is an involuntary act and involves bared teeth, foaming at the mouth, and a foul smell.


6. The male and female sex organs are split in two.


7. They are solitary animals. So I can rest assured that there is most likely only one under the play house.
