I know this because one comes to eat at my bird feeder every day. I also get the usual suspects: dark-eyed juncos, cardinals, sparrows, house finches, mourning doves, robins, blue jays, starlings, catbirds, the occasional downy woodpecker, titmice, nuthatches, chickadees. Now that the weather is warming, I'm hoping for a bigger variety. I know the goldfinches are coming. I wonder if we can lure a bluebird on its way somewhere more meadow-y.
My bird feeder is probably the single-biggest contributor to my drop in reading. Before the feeder went in just outside my window, I could easily go through five to six books a week. Now I'm down to three on average. And much as I'd like to blame Facebook, I find I'm usually staring at the starlings. Or gaping at the grosbeaks. Or captivated by the cardinals. Or something like that.
Anyway, just thought I'd let you know that the red-bellied woodpecker is not --red-bellied, that is. Next thing you know, we'll learn the two-toed sloth has three toes.
