I only have four books to choose from this week and two of them are trash novels. From this paltry pile, Carolyn Hart's Dead by Midnight emerges the winner. I love her characters, Max and Annie and all the oddballs who populate the lowcountry island with them.
This installment of the Death on Demand bookshop mystery went a little too cozy and way too catty. (I love my cat, but I am in no way a "cat person" and find myself put off by novels --especially mysteries-- which feature felines.)
There were an excessive number of murders and the solution was obvious (at least to me) early on in the book. You might be wondering how this book "won" top spot. Well, the others were worse. Damning with faint praise.
Still, Carolyn Hart is worth it usually. And if you're a mystery fan, she does toss a lot of authors and titles into each book for note at a future library visit.
