You could probably guess that old Norse god, Thor, gives us our word for thunder. What I found curious is that it seems to be a nearly universal word. From donder in Dutch to tundar in Persian, the sound of the word thunder is remarkably similar.
Through all the rumbles of thunder last night, I thought of Thor (and not the one from the new movie). And Zeus as he appears in Fantasia.
