Friday Book Blogging

The top book this week was Andrew Taylor's The Anatomy of Ghosts. Set in 1786 Cambridge at the fictional Jerusalem College, the story follows London bookseller John Holdsworth as he tries to re-establish himself in life after the tragic deaths of his young son and wife by accepting a commission to save a young man from madness. Holdsworth is selected for the job based on the pamphlet he authored debunking ghosts which gives its name to the title of the novel. Yet most of the characters (notably Holdworth himself) recurringly fight with their own "ghosts" throughout the story.
In summary, this is an elegantly-told mystery that did keep me guessing until the very end. The only caveat I will add is in regard to the setting itself, which having never been exposed to an English university, I found difficult to order in my mind.
