Bill Bryson has crammed every tidbit of historical trivia dealing with houses, buildings, appliances and lifestyle that he could find into At Home, A Short History of Private Life. There are moments when it borders on gratuitous, but on the whole, this is a really fun book about how we got to be living in the houses we have and why the kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, and living room do what they do.
