Friday Book Blogging

So, I read Jennifer Lee Carrell's second Shakespeare thriller which was a little too "witchy" for my tastes but an interesting premise for a novel. I am, however, choosing Anne Perry's Treason at Lisson Grove as my favorite this week for two main reasons.
One, the book is well-written, expertly plotted, and includes the two characters I first became enthralled with when I read Perry's Cater Street Hangman a decade ago.
Two, it is now a day late and I own a quarter in fines, so I'm getting my money's worth.
Seriously, mid-Victorian detective fiction can be tricky. There's a tendency toward Sherlock or Dickens. While I think her William Monk novels are stronger, there's just something very charming about Thomas Pitt's Victorian Columbo and his fiercely protective wife, Charlotte.

I'm gonna have to look for Anne Perry in "my" library when we open after summer vacation. Have just about finished all the Sue Grafton's A is for..., B is for... etc. and finishing up Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet. Why, with all this rain it's been a good summer for reading!
