A lament

I haven't commented recently on politics because it seemed a bit unfair to pile on the much-maligned, unfathomably pathetic crop of contenders for the GOP nomination. In addition, my current frustration levels with Congress preclude me from spending over 10 minutes per week thinking about them lest it adversely affect my health.
Perhaps due to this self-induced politics bubble, perhaps due to the overabundance of Occupy coverage, I somehow got the impression that we, the public, were getting a little more politically savvy. Or at least better informed. More intelligent? Less ignorant?

Silly me.

All I needed to jerk me back to reality was video from any Walmart on Black Friday. These people vote. These people, who will spend four and a half hours waiting in line and risk their safety to buy a television that they don't need with money they don't have just because it's a really good deal, complain about the government's debt (without irony!). These people who are disgusted that our economy has not recovered from the worst crash in 70 years after only three years of intensely partisan backbiting, represent the epitome of instant gratification and American avarice.
And yes, if they aren't too lazy to get off the couch where they are sitting while they watch that TV they didn't need that they are still paying for, next November, these people might even vote.

Scary thought, isn't it. I totally understand the lack of enthusiastic blogging these days and am eternally thankful we don't have anything like your election circus, nor the economic troubles. It floors me how people think the current Admin. should have solved the problems by now. Well, obviously they have no clue, hence the aforementioned 4.5 hr wait in line to buy something they don't need with money they don't have! Have a great weekend!
