This week's winner, hands down, is Alan Bradley's I am Half-Sick of Shadows featuring the inimitable Flavia de Luce. Any book that begins with the transformation of a portrait gallery into a skating rink is a guaranteed win. This is another charmer in the series.
Almost-eleven-year-old Flavia is at her best. Bradley mixes curiosity with belligerence and just the right amount of naivete for a pitch-perfect heroine.
Everyone should know Flavia.
