I do not

Did you know that 100 years ago, you could be fined for breaking off an engagement? This was called a "breach of promise" suit and most often the man was the defendant. It was considered the peak of dishonor to rescind an offer of marriage or to sully the bride's reputation.
Women, on the other hand, could always change their minds. I suppose this was the men's way of making us feel like we had some control in what was essentially a powerless position.
