I'm getting back into my groove. I did four books this week after months of just two or three. Maybe next week I'll get five in. The pick of the week goes to Jacqueline Winspear with her latest Maisie Dobbs offering, Elegy for Eddie.
In this one Maisie investigates the apparently accidental death of a "simple" man. By the description, it appears he'd be diagnosed as autistic in today's world. He seems to have been a Rain Man kind of guy.
The disturbing (and therefore intriguing) aspect of the story is that there really isn't a "bad guy" per se. The varied shades of gray in the characters and situations create a fascinating novel, but not a very good Mystery.
And Maisie's inability to make a decision regarding her personal life is really beginning to tick me off, but if this is your first Maisie Dobbs story, you probably won't mind. Although I do recommend starting off with the original just to orient yourself.
