Who decides how many items are in a "BEST OF" list? It seems to be a relatively arbitrary number.
I know 10 is pretty common, but sometimes people get cute as with the 140 best Twitter feeds, Top 12 of 2012 lists abound, and a play on unlucky 13 for the scariest haunted houses of 2012.
But then 11 best hockey fights? Like we couldn't pare that down to 10 or up it one to twelve? 15 hottest toys? 14 best-dressed reality TV stars? (How did this even get a list!?)
Some, desperate to join in the list-making but with not enough to fill out a proper list, went with Top 5.
However, 10 still stands as the benchmark. If you don't have 10, don't bother with a list.
Tomorrow, I'm closing out the year with my Top 10 Blog Posts of 2012. I'm sure I can find ten... .
