How much do you want to bet the critics who are disturbed by the love scenes in Brokeback Mountain are not nearly so put off when they're sitting at home watching the grainy movies in their collections?
If you are offended by sex in general, I don't think being offended by homosexual sex is indicative of homophobia. BUT if you relish watching the Gamma Delta sisters go down on the pizza guy while the relatively tame scenes in Brokeback Mountain offend you, the problem is yours.
I'm also amused at the critics who are taking pains to NOT discuss their own discomfort. They are the "I'm comfortable with my sexuality so I'm not threatened by this movie" men.
NEWSFLASH: this movie is not a threat. It should not be construed as a threat. It is a sad sad story about love, pressure to succeed, pressure to "fit in." The revelations from this movie should be such that we as a society are no longer pressuring homogeneity on eachother.

Haven't seen it yet, in part because I'm slightly reluctant to see yet another gay-themed drama with a sad ending. At least "Maurice" has an optimistic ending for one of its main characters.
A nun my partner works with at hospice has seen it and loved it.
