Brrrrrrrr

It's cold here. Part of that "artic air" that has the North of the country in its grip. This morning I woke to -1°F.
As I was driving into work this morning, I noticed seagulls bobbing between the rime on the lake here.
Which got me to thinking: how do their little feet not freeze completely and just snap off? My coffee in an insulated cup in my car, in my garage, froze solid last night. And here are these guys swimming in well-below freezing weather.
It's enough to make you shiver just thinking of it!
