I'm a little sick and tired of our President (and I have to keep reminding myself that, despite the fact that I've never voted for the man, he is our President) and his lip-service to "working together" when in his reality, which is far-removed from actual reality, "working together" means "do what I say."
The bill that he vetoed, which gives, what he terms as deadlines, but in reality should be viewed as goal lines for the withdrawal of troops from Iraq. The thinking behind the veto, according to him is that we're showing our hand if we tell the "enemy" that we plan to be gone by, say, 2009. The egocentricity of this line of thought is astounding. If we base our leaving Iraq on the idea that all of the world's terrorists (or a huge chunk of them) are simply biding their time in Iraq, setting off the occasional car bomb, until that purported deadline when all the U.S. soldiers leave so that they can turn the country into a terrorist playground, then we will never get out.
That is the information our administration is floundering with right now: how do we say that we will not abide by "deadlines" but deny the logical conclusion that leaving at anytime will create the chaos that they are accusing Democrats of fostering by demanding aforementioned "deadlines".
We want out. As a body, the American people are done. Through. Finished with the killing in Iraq. (Many of us are disgusted that we even started.) Most Americans WANT a deadline.
Something OUR President needs to "work together" to achieve.
