This week's haul was eight. The best of which was Will Thomas' latest The Black Hand.
I'm not much for the cover blurbs (I always base my selections on the inside flap), but on the back of this one is a quote that caught my eye: "...Will Thomas has worked his way up on my personal list of When's the Next One?" This is exactly how I feel about the duo Thomas has conjured for our edification.
Mysterious Cyrus Barker and his unwitting assistant Thomas Llewelyn take on the Mafia in its infancy in Victorian London, battling Sicilian gangsters, Irish Hooligans, Socialist dockworkers and Scotland Yard.
The first in the series, Some Danger Involved, brought Barker and Llewelyn together, and the characters and stories improve and evolve with each new novel. Told in the first person by Llewelyn, the tales are outrageous and lively. The cast of characters is flawless.
There are currently five books featuring Barker and Llewelyn. I'm currently wondering When's the Next One?
