Friday Book Blogging

Of the seven books this week, I had two favorites. Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman (which apparently is also a movie --sheesh, do I live in a cave or what!?) tells the story of two sisters growing up in the home of their witchy aunts and how that magic has affected their lives. The writing is simplistic, to the point of Hop on Pop at times, but the story manages to worm its way under your skin just the same.
Second on the list is Deception's Daughter by Cordelia Frances Biddle. This is the second of the Martha Beale mysteries which take place in Philadelphia in the 1840s. The historic detail is so-so, the characters veer toward caricatures, but the mystery is satisfying.
