Friday Book Blogging

A repeat author won out this week. Gregory Maguire's Mirror Mirror topped the pile of six books returned.
This, like my previous pick by Maguire, is a retelling of a famous fairy tale. Mirror Mirror re-imagines Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. Aspects of the story were glossed over and potentially interesting tangents remained unexplored, but the re-invention of the dwarves as introspective boulders coupled with the introduction of the Borgias (the infamous Lucrezia) carried the tale beyond the insipid.
As fairy tales go, Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister is a more thought-provoking retelling, but this one is worth a look.
