The big outrage Sunday was the $165 million that AIG gave to its employees in "retention bonuses" Setting that nauseating concept aside (How do you like knowing you have paid these incompetants enough to keep that second home in Barbadoes and the Cessna jet to fly there?), what I want to know is why can't we arrest these guys like Madoff?
Isn't the whole "toxic mortgages and credit default swap contracts that led to the company's near collapse" just a semi-justifiable Ponzi scheme? So Madoff didn't actually invest the money from his "clients" in anything but himself and AIG invested in something. But the something they invested in was completely worthless. That to me is fraud. I'd like to see a bunch of guilty pleas.
