Important dates in history

Did you know that yesterday was the 96th anniversary of the beginning of World War I and the 91st anniversary of the end of it?

I'm sure I learned this in high school history class, but it must've flown right out of my trivia-loving head.

Actually the killing part of the war was much shorter. The armistice that ended actual warfare was signed on 11/11/18 and the declaration of war was a full month after the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand.
While we may not have sacrificed on the homefront for this war, the soldiers have also been astonishingly lucky. The death toll in WWI was staggering with over 17 MILLION soldiers killed or missing and 21 million wounded. If we saw those kind of casualties, you can bet the government would wrap it up as quickly as possible.
