This week I managed to finish four books. One of which was the critically acclaimed Out Stealing Horses by Per Petterson. Meh. It was kind of a self-indulgent stream-of-consciousness reminiscence from a mildly depressed Norwegian hermit. Oooooh. Sign me up.
Anyway, it wasn't bad, but I can't really choose it as the favorite. I'm showing my true low-brow colors by picking Bruce Alexander's Blind Justice which transforms real-life John Fielding of Bow Street Runner fame into a fictional detective. Maybe it's the historian or the Anglophile in me, but I wanted to learn more about John Fielding. Although peopled with vivid, engaging characters, the plot is only slightly above average. And I figured out the mystery sooner than I would have liked. But I definitely will read the rest of the series.
