Friday Book Blogging

This week's top book was a given from the moment I picked it up. I love Laurie R. King's Mary Russell-Sherlock Holmes books, and her most recent is part two of a two part story.
Part one, The Language of Bees, ended abruptly with Russell and Holmes splitting up after a near-fatal attack in Scotland. I waited as long as I possibly could to read part two because I know that the next book in the series doesn't come out for months. This week I could wait no longer. I gobbled up The God of the Hive in hours.
Not only was the book well-plotted and wonderfully narrated, but King's re-imagining of Sherlock Holmes is so pitch-perfect that you always wonder if he wasn't a real person. Even die-hard old-school Holmsians can't help but love the new adventures. (Although, my punkinhead thinks that Mary Russell isn't good enough for Sherlock.)
