For her descriptions of fog (the "London pea-souper" kind) alone, Margery Allingham wins the top pick this week with her Albert Campion mystery The Tiger in the Smoke. I'm not a big fan of Campion's (too bland of a personality), but this was well-plotted, with a modern, almost Martha Grimes feel to it. (I suppose it would be more appropriate to say it the other way around.) And, as I mentioned earlier, the many references to the fog were wonderful. I may have to add her to the pantheon of foggy metaphors.
