Friday Book Blogging

The book, Mrs. Queen Takes the Train by William Kuhn tops the list this week. Kuhn has created a fictionalized Queen Elizabeth II who slips out of the palace one day and takes the train to Scotland.
But the novel is really about the charmingly drawn characters who follow her and/or aid her escape. We learn the histories of a butler, an equerry, a lady-in-waiting, a cheese clerk, the Royal Dresser, and a stablehand in the mews at Buckingham Palace.
A little bit of fish-out-of-water mixed with a road-trip, but not entirely light-hearted, this book entertained while at times offering introspection. The absurdity is completely believable. And THAT is an achievement..
