Friday Book Blogging

Four books this week (three of which I read this weekend). The best of the bunch by far was Erin Hart's False Mermaid. Fast-paced and well-plotted, the story follows pathologist Nora Gavin back to her native Minnesota after years in Ireland. She is determined to get the evidence needed in her sister's murder in order to convict her sister's husband.
Hart deftly weaves the pursuit into folklore from Ireland and introduces magical motifs. The one jarring note is an all-too-convenient accidental death that extends the life of the plot to allow for the final confrontation.
Still, overall, this one's a page-turner and keeps you guessing.
