The Randomness of time

On the last day of 2013, I am not reflecting on the past year. I am not planning resolutions for the future. I am pondering the randomness of the last day of the year. Why is it December 31st? Why does our year "end" today? Why not January 31st? Or September 30th? Why don't we have 13 months of 28 days instead of the random 30s and 31s that alternate throughout our year? Let's all pretend that November is the last month of the year.
You've already failed at your New Year's Resolutions.
