Two idiotically reactive state legislatures and two conservative governors wise/pragmatic enough to pull the brakes. Thankfully calmer heads prevailed in Kansas and Arizona to prevent either of those states from legislating hate. Because, no matter how you argue the position, "religious freedom" is not the freedom to treat other human beings as less than human. And if your religion endorses the degradation of others, perhaps you should re-examine your religion instead of imposing its tenets on an entire state.
Hopefully the other states considering revisiting Jim Crow on all the gays will come to the awkward realization that it's just not good for business. Which is, sadly, what truly killed this legislation.
