At the risk of revealing rather pedestrian tastes, I wish to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the birth of one of the greatest composers ever to live. Wolfgang Mozart in this day and age is a bit of a fad, it seems, with contrivances like "Mozart for Munchins" or some such being popped into CD players all over suburbia by soccer moms who've been told that classical music is good for little Cody's brain cells. But the reality is that this man, in the 35 years he lived, achieved more for classical music than many did in twice that time. He was composing music at an age when I was barely getting through a reading of "Hop on Pop." He was, even by his contemporaries, an acknowleged musical genius. And he lives on in his music.
Happy birthday, Mr. Mozart.

He's my favorite classical composer. His piano concerto No. 20 in D minor is among the most amazing pieces of music ever written.
It hurts to think of all the music we never got to hear because he didn't live to be 70.
